Dr. Jay Apt has spent more than 35 days in space on four Space Shuttle missions, and has performed two space walks. He's been to the Russian space station Mir, and is a recipient of NASA's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Medal. He is now a tenured Professor at Carnegie Mellon University. Holding an undergraduate degree from Harvard and doctorate from MIT, Jay is down-to-earth. With 5,500 hours in 25 types of aircraft, he's flown personally to Greenland, Guatemala, England and Alaska. Spacewalking and What’s it Really Like Up There? shares the human side of spaceflight: how astronauts are chosen, training, the night before launch, going to the launch pad, leaving Earth, working and living in space, overcoming problems, doing a spacewalk, and returning to Earth. Get an up-to-the-minute report on the wonders being created in Earth orbit, and see breathtaking imagery of our planet like those found in his book Orbit: NASA Astronauts Photograph the Earth.
